About Normcore
Normcore became a fashion-media talking point in 2014, associated with jeans, plain T-shirts, sweatshirts and practical shoes. Its influential formulation came in K-HOLE and Box 1824’s 2013 report Youth Mode. There, the idea concerned adapting to different situations and finding belonging, rather than proving individuality through an increasingly specific look. The later association with ordinary wardrobe staples captures part of its reception, but plain clothes alone do not establish the report’s social attitude.
