Nicole Groult established her Paris salon in the early 1910s and became prominent in the artistic circles of the 1920s. Paul Poiret’s younger sister, she developed an independent couture practice and worked with theatre.

Anna Pavlova appeared wearing her clothes in 1921; surviving ensembles demonstrate the technical ambition of her atelier.
