Tao Kurihara trained at Central Saint Martins and developed her work at Comme des Garçons under Rei Kawakubo and Junya Watanabe. Given her own label in 2005, she explored unexpected combinations of established garment types.

Kurihara paired a silk-knit polo shirt with a skirt of shredded paper for her all-white spring/summer 2007 collection. The collection’s premise brought the ordinary shirt into contact with the ceremony of a wedding.
