Behind the design

Amies's 1969–70 dress places small repeated motifs above and below an emphatic belt. Long sleeves and a relatively simple outline let the change in pattern dominate. The Met records wool, hemp and metal, retaining an unusually specific material combination for this garment at the boundary of two decades.
