Behind the design

Pointed, overlapping panels articulate the torso and hips of this metallic-looking ensemble. The close-fitting bodice and long skirt create a continuous, highly controlled silhouette, while the layered edges project away from the body. The museum identifies silk and synthetic materials and assigns the garment to Mugler’s spring/summer 1989 collection.
