Behind the design
A rigid, sculpted bodice sits above a skirt of soft, irregular silk layers. The Met records fiberglass and leather for the upper component and silk for the lower one. Dating to fall/winter 1980–81, the ensemble makes the contrast between a defined torso and an animated, fluttering hem especially clear.
