Behind the design
Jonathan Anderson looked to sixteenth- and seventeenth-century construction for Loewe’s spring/summer 2020 collection. The museum describes this garment as a parachute coat: its billowing sleeves recall a monastic choir robe, while its oversized collar evokes Pierrot. Historical reference becomes an expansive modern silhouette in synthetic fabric and cotton rather than a literal period costume.
Look closer
Look at the billowing sleeves and oversized collar. Historical references to a choir robe and Pierrot become an expansive silhouette in modern fabric.
