Behind the design

Virgil Abloh designed this wool-and-leather ensemble for Louis Vuitton’s fall/winter 2019–20 collection. Its closely repeated light-and-dark pattern runs across the jacket and trousers, making separate tailored pieces read as one coordinated image. The museum preserves five components together, allowing study of Abloh’s work for a historic French house alongside his independent Off-White designs.
