For Off-White’s pre-fall 2018 collection, Virgil Abloh placed “LITTLE BLACK DRESS” on a plain knitted dress and paired it with labeled boots. Graphic language, an everyday clothing form and a couture reference meet in one ensemble. The Met reads the quotation marks as a challenge to fashion’s hierarchy of value.
