About Rave
Rave dressing developed with acid house, warehouse parties and the expanding dance scene of the late 1980s and 1990s. Comfort and movement mattered: loose T-shirts, dungarees, trainers and smiley-face imagery circulated alongside tight clubwear, fluorescent color and metallic finishes. Different scenes favored different combinations. Designers also responded to this culture. Rifat Özbek’s 1990 designs, remade in 1994 for the V&A, show a polished fashion interpretation rather than a uniform worn by every raver. Music and collective participation remained central.
