Behind the design
For Shades of Picasso, Adrian dropped a half-collar toward the middle of the bodice and supported it with a loose fabric sling. The Met places the rayon dress among his Modern Museum designs. Its colored pieces were inset, requiring exact seam matching and careful machine stitching without the distortion caused by ordinary pinning.
