About Maximalism

Maximalism became especially visible in the second half of the 2010s, when Alessandro Michele’s Gucci encouraged exuberant combinations of print, ornament and historical references. Street-style photographs carried these ideas beyond the runway. Outfits could mix patterns, textures and accessories instead of reducing them to a single restrained statement. The term is an established description of decorative excess; the selected garments show it through accumulated visual detail, rather than through unusual volume alone.
