Behind the design
Gold lace and simulated-pearl motifs give this evening dress weight as well as ornament. The Met notes that the embroidery pulls the flaring skirt into uneven folds. Its broad sleeves preserve Poiret's theatrical approach while the carefully finished surface reflects his increasingly polished couture work of the mid-1920s.
