Behind the design
This 2005 edition revisits a dress first presented in spring/summer 2000. Its molded fiberglass-and-resin shell has flaps that open to reveal pink tulle. The original used a remote-controlled mechanism; the museum’s version operates manually. Chalayan used the design to explore relationships among the body, technology and the idea of transformation.
