Behind the design

Hussein Chalayan’s fall/winter 2014–15 dress brings silk together with acrylic plastic. In the museum photograph, a repeating dark pattern and pale translucent layer produce an unstable sense of surface and depth. The long, narrow shape gives this visual experiment a restrained frame, inviting close attention to the interaction between the garment’s materials.
