Behind the design
A smooth wooden bustier encloses the torso above dark trousers. The Met describes this relatively low-tech design as a counterpoint to Chalayan’s experiments with advanced materials. It also connects the piece to his earlier graduation work and later furniture garments, showing a recurring interest in the boundary between clothing and constructed objects.
